Why weeks and months do not line up exactly

A week is always seven days. Calendar months range from 28 to 31 days, so four weeks is not a universal calendar month. This tool uses an average month of 30.4375 days: total days divided by 30.4375. It rounds the answer to one decimal place.

Examples of the conversion

At 20 weeks, 140 days is approximately 4.6 average months. At 40 weeks, 280 days is approximately 9.2 average months. These are elapsed-time conversions, not month labels for a clinical chart. A phrase such as “in the fifth month” can describe an interval rather than five completed months.

Which number should I share at appointments?

Keep the completed week and day result for care conversations. The month estimate is a convenient way to talk about time with family; it should not be used to decide test dates, appointments or fetal development. If you do not know your current week, calculate it first from a confirmed due date or period start.

Why is this different from a four-weeks-per-month chart?

This tool uses an average calendar month, not a 28-day month. Different month conventions produce different labels.
