Feeding & diaper log

A record, with room for your baby’s own rhythm.

Newborn routines are often variable. This tool helps you record what happened rather than impose a fixed feeding timetable. Follow your baby’s cues and your care team’s guidance, especially for babies born early or with feeding or growth concerns.

What to bring to a conversation with your care team

A record of feeding times, your own notes, and wet and dirty diapers can help you describe the day. The log only counts the entries you add: a missing entry does not mean a feed or diaper change did not happen.

Newborn feeding chart: a record of your day

A feeding chart can be a record of events rather than a fixed timetable. Use the journal above to add breastfeeds, bottles and diaper changes with their times and notes. Print the day you select, or use our blank printable sheet to write entries by hand. The chart does not set feeding volumes or intervals.

Should a newborn follow a fixed feeding schedule?

The American Academy of Pediatrics describes responsive feeding for most healthy, full-term infants: watch for hunger cues rather than relying only on the clock. Babies born prematurely or with some medical conditions may need a schedule from their pediatrician. This journal records the routine you observe; it does not decide when or how much to feed.

Questions about newborn feeding & diaper log

Can I use this as a breastfeeding log?

Yes. Choose Breastfeeding and add notes such as the side or duration. Notes are free text; the tool does not calculate feeding duration or milk intake from them.

How does the newborn feeding and diaper log count a mixed diaper?

A Wet + dirty diaper entry contributes to both wet and dirty counts. It remains a single event in the journal.

Can I print a newborn log?

Yes. After recording events, select the day you need and choose Print journal. Export CSV includes all saved days, so you can keep a separate history.

Does this tell me whether my baby is getting enough milk?

No. The counts only summarize entries you added. They do not assess feeding adequacy, hydration or growth. Discuss concerns with your baby’s care team.
