The little guide · By Dr. Baby

What is a wake window?

A wake window is the time between waking up and falling asleep again. It describes an interval, not a diagnosis. This journal calculates the minutes between two times you enter and groups the records by the age label you choose. It does not assign an ideal number or label your baby’s day as good or bad.

A 3 month old wake window

At three months, record the actual start and end of each awake stretch rather than assuming every stretch must match. The AAP notes that regular sleep cycles generally emerge around four months and that sleep needs differ. A short record can help you notice whether mornings and afternoons look different. Ask your clinician about persistent sleep or feeding concerns.

Using age groups without rigid targets

Age groups help organize your notes. They do not change the math: a 9:00 AM wake-up and a 10:20 AM sleep start always make an 80-minute interval. Export records before discussing them with a care professional. If you want to explore a hypothetical timetable, the four-, five-, six- and seven-month planners let you adjust durations while keeping their assumptions visible.
